AVERTS SCHOOL FIRE LOSS

Prompt action on the part of school children, when they saw clouds of smoke rolling from the roof of the Kerr school building, 3651 State Avenue, at 10:30 o'clock this morning, probably averted at least serious property loss.

At recess time the primary children noticed the smoke and reported it to Miss Maude Gray, principal.  Miss Gray called a fire drill and the building was cleared of 175 pupils in less than one minute.

The older boys climbed to the roof and extinguished the blaze before the arrival of the fire department.  The fire is believed to have started from a spark from the chimney.
