"What Are You Reading?" is an initiative developed by the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, in partnership with the KCK Chamber of Commerce, that focuses on creating programs, events, materials and conversations around reading.
The program goals include:
- Helping students to develop a life-long love of reading, and encouraging them to make reading a daily habit
- Connecting adults to students through the question, "What Are You Reading?"
- Building and fostering strong relationships with the community (businesses, citizens, city leaders)
- Enhancing literacy
- Strengthening the school district/library connection
Reading is the most important tool for success in school and society. It's an integral part of everyday life. Whatever the material — books, magazines, newspapers, the Internet, food labels, menus, signs, instruction manuals — reading is an essential tool for a successful and meaningful life.
